Michelle Rogers Humphres - Attorney
I was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and attended high school, college and law school in Alabama but the majority of my life has been spent in North Carolina. I lived on the coast of North Carolina in Morehead City during my grade school and middle school years and in the beautiful Research Triangle area since returning to North Carolina in 1995.
My husband Chris and I met at the University of Alabama as undergraduates and married two years later as graduate students. Shortly after graduation, we packed up a 28 foot Penske truck and moved everything we owned, including two cars, to Durham, North Carolina. At the time, we thought we would be making the return trip to Alabama in about five years after Chris received his PhD from Duke. It is now 20+ years later and we are still here with our Bouvier, Laiken.
My desire to help people with wills and estate planning began my very first year of law school. My internship with the Elder Law Clinic of the University of Alabama School of Law gave me the opportunity to give presentations on the importance of wills and estate planning at local senior centers. I also met with clients to discuss their wishes and to prepare estate planning documents that would carry out their wishes. My most treasured memories are of those moments when a client who was originally hesitant to talk about their wishes transitioned into a client who was not only comfortable with expressing their wishes but also looking forward to having their estate plan in place.
I opened my law practice with the goal of providing comprehensive, personalized Will and Estate Planning at an affordable cost in 2008. In 2010, I had the opportunity to help a family with a child who has special needs with their estate planning. Over time, assisting families who have loved ones with special needs became a core part of my practice. Today, I am dedicated to partnering with those who have loved ones with special needs to develop their personal estate plan to meet their future needs and the needs of their loved ones with special needs, be a resource for planning for the age 18 transition, and to be an advocate if the loved one with special needs has an issue with their Medicaid eligiblity.

Laiken, Jazmine, and Keira - Canine Team Members
Laiken is the latest addition to our team. She loves the opportunity to meet new people and is being trained in facility dog skills so that she may not only meet clients but also serve them.
Jazmine was our certified therapy dog. She visited nursing homes from 2005-2011. Our visits were an integral part in my decision to start my law practice dedicated to helping clients with their Wills and Estate Planning. We said goodbye to Jazmine in October 2012.
Keira, our rescue dog, was our head of security. She took her job so seriously that she was restricted to performing her duties at the home office, not our office where we meet with clients. We said goodbye to Keira in July 2020.
